No offense, but you're only 10 percent human.

The green things are germs. And so
are the blue things!
Man, there’s a lot of germs in you. If we could grab your guts and squeeze out all the bacteria and microbes, we’d get 4.5 pounds of germs!

I’m sort of enjoying picturing a four-pound pile of gut germs.

Let me back up. You already know that your body is made up of living cells. But if you added ALL of those cells up, you’d find that you’re only 10% YOU!

What I mean is that there are about 1,000 different bacteria species on and in you. There’s trillions of them, total! There are so many, these bacteria compose 90 percent of all the living cells in your body.

E. coli bacteria in the intestines.
They cause diarrhea. (Jerks!)
So to quote guts expert Dr. Roy Sleator: “We are . . . only ten percent human - the rest is pure microbe.”

There’s trillions of them! But don’t worry, most of these trillions of bacteria are either helping you or not actually hurting you.

So that only leaves a few hundred billion germ-nasties that are trying to kill you!
