I shared news of Arizona State University's Ugly Bug Contest back here, and now the results are in. Envelope, please… and it looks like the snakefly is our most hideous insect!
Give it a big hand, and don’t try to squish it… The snakefly (scientific name Agulla) has a long neck and, uh, snake-like face, and it’s actually sort of cool-looking. But maybe BECAUSE it looks like a snake, the snakefly crushed the cockroach, which came in second.
But for my money, last year’s winner, the tick, is still pretty darned gross. (Oh, and according to the voters, the least gross insect is the honeybee. Makes sense!) Full story here.
