Brains in a jar. Yum.

Over at Living Locurto is a cool DIY for your own edible brains in a jar.

It's sort of a cupcake thing ... like a medulla oblongata under glass.

I like!

Looking for a nice gift? Try an internal organ!

Are you familiar with Etsy? It’s a place where craftspeople sell their "fun projects."

Some of these people may be insane. Take the Etsy user who crochets internal organs…like this heart! Her description:
Show your loved one how you really feel! This unique amigurumi heart has been crocheted with love using red acrylic yarn, stitched with blue yarn veins, and stuffed full of love!
This crafty person ("AnOptimisticCynic") is also happy to make you a gall bladder (complete with gallstones!).

Maybe you prefer a large intestine?

And of course, lfe-size brains are always popular...

Heck, you could just buy all these pieces and make your own crocheted Frankenstein!

Sleeping Beauty had brains!

Have you ever seen delicate ceramic figurines of dainty women?

I guess they don't make them anymore.

(Ooh, and this is my second "brains" item of the day!)

The best part is the *nom nom* sound!

Yummy! I love brownies!

Photo by the York Archaeological Trust
What's that? You say this is a actually a photo of a 2,500-year old human brain?

I think I just lost my brownie appetite.

This ancient brain was found in England. It apparently belonged to a man who was hung by the neck and THEN decapitated. Talk about overkill!

This Live Science article about it had a great quote:
“It was just amazing to think that a brain of someone who had died so many thousands of years ago could persist just in wet ground,” said a researcher . . . “If you talk to pathologists who deal with fresh dead bodies they say the first organ to really deteriorate and to basically go to liquid is the brain because of its high fat content.”
Hey, I got my appetite back!

Gross Link Mania!

Yes, we're backed up with disgusting material here at Ultra-Gross. So stand back while I open the valve!

—First, guys really do sweat more than girls. Here's why! And hey, here's the gross headline of the day:
—It turns out that whale poop is one of the most nutrient-rich things in the ocean. That must explain why it's so delicious! Article here.

"Beans of the Dead?
Hoo-boy!
"
—In Italy, they'll be celebrating an unusual holiday on November 2: the Beans of the Dead. (If you've ever wondered what the gas of a ghost smells like, this is YOUR day!)

—By the way, if you have to smell other people's farts (whether they're alive or dead), it might make you a BAD person. After all, research shows that people who smell good things act better.

—So take a deep breath through your mouth...and take a look at these, the 25 oddest things ever eaten by humans (and then caught on X-ray!)

—Doctors have figured out a new way to get at the brain during brain surgery: Through the eyes! Article here...I don't have the courage to post pictures of the procedure.

—In a battle against grossness, scientists have developed a new kind of chewing gum that dissolves after it's thrown away. (Shoe soles are rejoicing!)

—Scientists are putting jellyfish in blenders and making jellyfish smoothies. Why? For solar power!

Padded, plush toilet paper is way uncool. Here's why.

"AAH! OOH! EEE!
That feels awesome
."
—Finally, no link, but no link, but in India, it’s not uncommon to see “ear cleaners” roaming the streets. Their specialty: Cleaning gunk out of your ears! (This is not a pleasant process.)

He's faster than a speeding bullet— oh, YUCK.

Here at Ultra-Gross, we usually skip the grisly and gruesome…but we’re happy to make an exception here!
Artist Marcus Wittmers created this sculpture, titled “Even Heroes have Bad Days.” It’s part of the “Heroes, Freaks and Superrabbis” exhibition at Berlin’s Jewish Museum. (Who knew? Superman is a Superrabbi!)

This Brain Will Kill You

This fungi looks like a brain! That’s why it’s known as the “brain mushroom” (aka, Gyromitra esculenta).

But don’t ever eat any mushroom that looks like this… because the brain mushroom is really poisonous. Just like human brains!

Okay okay, human brains aren’t poisonous. But I still think I should discourage you from eating them!
