You can’t get grasshopper tacos in San Francisco anymore.
The good people at La Oaxaqueña Bakery and Restaurant were selling these tacos like hotcakes. Owner Harry Persaud is from Oaxaca, Mexico. And there, you can buy grasshopper tacos on any streetcorner.
But the local health department said NOPE. They said the restaurant can serve grasshoppers (yum!), crickets (crunchy!), or even tarantulas (tastes like shrimp) as long as the bugs come from the U.S.
But since Persaud doesn’t have an American supplier, he’s out of luck (and tacos!) for the moment. But there is a solution: He can raise his OWN grasshoppers!
