Meet the Bristle Worm

Lucky for us, it lives deep in the ocean. *shiver* See a horrifying photo series on bristle worms here.

My, what big gums you have.

From here.
The gelada is a furry, baboon-like primate that lives in the mountains of Ethiopia. It's actually pretty mellow. I mean, it eats grass!

But when it gets mad or scared, the gelada pulls back its lips and shows off its fangs ... and its gums!

The Goblin Shark would like to say "Hi!"

Don't be afraid just because the goblin shark has a mouth INSIDE of its mouth (like Alien!). Just have a look at the slo-mo footage at 0:30 of this video and—

Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!

Say "Hello" to the Hookworm!

Hookworm by AJC1I write about the hookworm in The Big Book of Gross Stuff. But I just thought I'd remind you that they are HORRIBLE.

And if you're interested, here's an article about how hookworms affected the economy of a huge region of the U.S.!

Whoa!

This humpback anglerfish made me burp up some oatmeal just now. (From Mark Laita's amazing book, Sea.)

A Truly Gross Tale

We spent this weekend at the beach. While there, a friend ran out of floss, so I lent him some of mine. I then witnessed something so horrible, I am breaking out in a cold sweat even as I write this:

He started flossing his teeth and then running the used floss over his lips. He would do this over and over.

"Do you really like the taste of the floss?" I asked.

He stopped. "No, I'm just eating the bits of food I've flossed out." Seeing my horrified expression, he added, "Doesn't everyone do that?"

No. With the exception of one demented person, I don't think ANYONE does that!

Nothing's more natural than eating!

I don't think there's anything disgusting about food. It sustains our life and also tastes good! Yep, food is—

Oh, that's horrible. And what the heck is that guy stuffing in his mouth? A burrito?

Anyway, even that extreme close-up doesn't change my mind that eating food is the most natural—

Oh, forget it.

Francisco Domingo Joaquim and his "Jaws of Awe"

Guinness Book of
World Records
I don't really need to look this far into someone's mouth...and throat...and guts.

But since Francisco Domingo Joaquim is showing off, maybe I'll take a peek!
