"Cackling Farts" Defined!

In my far-reaching research, I recently learned that there was an old slang term called “cackling-farts.” Were these farts so horrible, they sounded like an old crone laughing? I had to find out!

After consulting the First English Dictionary of Slang, 1699, I found that cackling farts were a slang term for eggs. I guess the idea was that chickens cackle, especially when they’re laying eggs. So the eggs were cackling farts…though cackling poops makes more sense!

Here’s a few other words I learned:
  • Bumfodder: Toilet paper, or “what serves to wipe the Tail.”
  • Farting crackers: Pants, or “Breeches.
  • Fizzle: “A little or low-sounding Fart.”

Gooey? Güey!

I didn’t think that “bad words” were technically gross. But then I learned that in Mexico, curse words are called “groserías.” So I was wrong… they’re gross, baby!
According to this article, Mexicans have a reputation for being ultra-polite… and for swearing! Adult Mexicans use about 20 groserías a day, with younger people cursing the most. Richer people, men, and those living near the U.S. also tend to curse more than others. For obvious reasons, I can’t share the actual words with you… well, maybe just a little one. The word güey (meaning “ox” or “stupid”) is a mild grosería that does actually sounds sort of gross.
Hey, wait, there could be trouble. It’s estimated that Mexicans use over a billion curse words daily. But will happen when the world’s supply of groserías gets used up? Dang it!

"Underpanticus Maximus"! (Nicknames for Underwear)

Underwear didn't even get invented until the 1800s. So before that, people left skidmarks everywhereUgh!

Though it's known by names like "skivvies" now, the first pairs of underwear were nicknamed "unmentionables" and even "unwhisperables." That's right, you couldn't even whisper about your underwear!

Of course, we have a much healthier attitude about our underwear these days. In fact, an Australian company even did a survey to discover the favorite nicknames for underwear in the Down Under:

Aren't we clever?
